MetropolitanRepublic Cape Town
2005 - 2009
Almost immediately after arriving in South Africa, I was tasked with setting up Metro’s Cape Town office. We quickly built up the business, working with a major financial services company, a pan-African telecom and a few other smaller clients. This was done alongside the highly respected strategist Josie Fisher; and with the support of Metro’s founders and leadership Paul Warner and Alison Deeb.
We had an incredible and downright wild 1.5 years, bringing together a formidable team of creatives, some brave work, 20 staff members, and creating an office which was featured in design magazines.
Alas, in the end, our primary client was the pan-African telecom, where we looked after seven territories across Africa. And WPP elected to turn our one very expensive Cape Town-based agency into two far cheaper agencies elsewhere in Africa for the same price. So, the agency burned bright for a moment, but then snuffed out before we truly set the world alight.
Here’s how the agency group is doing now: metropolitanrepublic.com
